As a novel element in the preservation of the road system in Costa Rica, Consejo Nacional de Vialidad (CONAVI) promoted bidding proceedings No. 2007-04 for maintenance of the gravel roads of the national system. These gravel roads represent 2900 Km, which account for a percentage, not negligible at all, of 40% of such system.
All the gravel roads were divided into almost 40 zones and the same number of bidding proceedings. Constructora MECO participated in all of them, being awarded in 12, and is currently developing activities in a majority. We are giving maintenance to gravel roads throughout the country, from centric regions such as Moravia or Curridabat, to faraway regions such as Talamanca, Guatuso or Nandayure, as well as places like Santos, Turrialba, Limón and Nicoya.
These works are very beneficial for the country and have been very interesting. For this purpose, we are using our own and rented machinery. Mentally, we have to change from the environment of an intensive use of asphalt and finishers for one that has gravel, a grader and a water tank.
