Estrada Lajas road, an example of a modern road work

Constructora MECO has been a key element in providing the national and foreign tourists with comfortable access to the beaches of Guanacaste, with the construction of durable roads that show all the technological advances.

As a result, a road from Puerto Carrito to Lajas, with a length of 21 kilometers, and a cost of more than 4500 million colones, was opened in the last quarter of 2008, being a special ceremony held for the purpose in Santa Marta de Hojancha.

Constructora MECO was in charge of building this modern road, including the construction of ditches, with the warranty of more durability for the roadway, horizontal and vertical signs, and placement of contention guards, in view of the steep nature of the route, with pronounced curves. We placed a grade D granular sub-base, base stabilized with Portland cement and a hot bituminous pavement carpet.

This work was directed by Rodrigo Fernández, as Resident Engineer, and Francisco Jiménez, as Superintendent, accompanied by an efficient crew of workers who completed the work in 400 days.

The project was conceived on a linear basis, in such way as to avoid having excess machinery in the fronts, thus using the least quantity of equipment possible, optimizing its use.

As lessons learned, we have to make emphasis that the identification of the risks before starting the work helped us transform a problematic situation into a useful one. We also learned that making decisions based on production indicators helped to complete the project on time and, finally, it was very positive to have a close and excellent relationship with the customer.

Finally, we have to praise the effort and dedication of our field personnel, one of the highest points for construction of the project.
